This Vine Life: Grocery Store Edition

posted by Beck

It has been awhile since we posted a "slice of country life" type of post, so we're long overdue! For example, I really wish I'd posted about the time I went to "Ladies Night" at the feed store to buy JP's Christmas present. The parking lot was completely packed with big trucks and SUVs and I overheard a woman talking about how someone wanted her to iron their jeans and her response was, "I don't know how to do that - you know I ain't got no man at home." What? I am always amazed at the fact that we only live a few miles away from the city, but yet people out here still talk with a country twang. Who's kidding who here, people?

But that's not the point of this post. Typically we do most of our shopping at Raley's - about 15 minutes away from our house, conveniently located right off the highway and on the path between my work and home. But, sometimes we just want to run to the market in "town" and grab a couple of items.

By town, I mean the tiny community of Lockeford just a few miles north of us.

This isn't the market, but a picture of the town's water tower. Across the street from there is a "Donuts and Liquor," which looks more like a bar from the outside than a donut shop. If bars didn't make me feel incredibly awkward, I would definitely want to experience it.

The local market is actually really nice (and their prices reflect that, so we usually only stop there out of necessity), but they do have some...interesting "art" adorning their walls.

The manager was standing nearby, so I had to be quick and discreet in my photography.

I told LJ we could name this guy "Mickey Moose." He liked that idea.
I kind of love that the corner grocery store has animal heads on their wall.  I also love that on the way home we get to stop on the side of the road and look at the field of tiny ponies who live at a house with a great dane. Not sure which excites me more - the tiny ponies or the great dane.
